THEMES I, II, and III
BY A.L. Staveley and others

These themes, presented on work days at Two Rivers Farm, are meant to be worked on—not just read and discussed.  Designed for those who are more interested in learning how to “do” the Gurdjieff work than in talking about ideas, philosophy or theory, these themes are not meant to answer questions but to bring some of the material in us which we take for granted, into question.  To stir things up in our sluggish minds, to come out of the strait jacket of associative thinking.

These are elementary exercises in self-study, a springboard for a practical approach to the ideas.  It is possible group leaders, or groups without a leader, studying Mr. Gurdjieff’s method might find one or another of these themes useful in their own peculiar and special circumstances and that would be good.  But mainly the hope is that these themes should serve as an example of one approach to a practical way of working.
